The Burlington Chamber of Commerce has announced their 2016 Business Excellence Awards and Food for Life has been nominated in the Not-for-Profit category. The winners for all the business excellence awards will be announced at the Gala on April 6, 2017.

The Chamber has named 22 local organizations as potential winners of awards in a variety of categories. Award nominations are based on overall business excellence and the criteria include excellence in business leadership, community contributions, entrepreneurship, environment, employee welfare, innovation and market growth.

“The Chamber was faced with some very tough decisions to choose finalists and winners this year” said Keith Hoey, President & CEO of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce. “The calibre of the companies seems to be getting better every year. This is a clear indication of the world-class organizations that carry on business in Burlington and the Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be able to recognize all these organizations.”

We are truly honoured to be nominated for such a prestigious award in Burlington,” says Brenda Hajdu, Executive Director. “Burlington is a very special community that demonstrates a strong commitment to serving others. We take pride in being among a strong group of corporate citizens committed to helping others. Together, we are able to provide food for more than 200,000 meals each and every month.”

Hunger is a complex issue. Engaging the community is a critical success factor to meeting the demands of food insecurity. Food for Life is working in neighbourhoods and with businesses to ensure that healthy food is accessible to those in need.  In the past 18 months Food for life has seen a 25% increase in the number of neighbour visits going from 27,000 to over 38,000. The need in Burlington is growing as is Food for Life.

Food for Life is honoured to be nominated alongside some amazing non-for-profit organizations and businesses and is looking forward to serving more neighbours in need across the Halton Region.
