Food for Life is asking local residents to help out a family in need for the holidays by participating in its annual turkey drive this weekend.

“More than 37,000 people in Halton are battling hunger every day and Food for Life and Fortinos want to ensure that these people have food on their tables this holiday,” stated a media release.

    Saturday and Sunday

On Saturday (Dec. 10) and Sunday (Dec. 11), from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Food for Life will hold its turkey drive at six Fortinos locations and one Loblaws Superstore location across Oakville and Burlington.

Participants can purchase and donate a turkey, or make a monetary donation to Food for Life, a local food-based charity dedicated to sourcing and distributing fresh, nutritious food to those in need through community partnerships.

“The holiday season is about giving back to those in need in your neighbourhood,” Brenda Hajdu, Food for Life executive director, said in the release.

“We want the community to come together to support the 10,000 local families in need who are struggling to put food on their tables this holiday season.”

According to Food for Life, one in 10 Halton families are battling hunger.

The organization is aiming to collect more than 2,000 turkeys for the drive this year.
